€5.3m in grants awarded for urban greening projects in Dalmatia

Hina - Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Minister Branko Bačić on Thursday awarded contracts worth €5.3 million in non-repayable funding for urban greening and public space improvement projects in Zadar and Šibenik-Knin counties.

Bačić said the projects would make towns and municipalities greener and more attractive while contributing to climate change mitigation goals and the European Union's objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

The funding was awarded to the municipalities of Tribunj (€413,784), Tisno (€384,966) and Jasenice (€581,571), while the town of Biograd na Moru received €3.9 million.

He announced that further investment in green urban infrastructure was planned, with Zadar, Škabrnja and Pag among the local authorities that could receive funding in the next phase.

During a meeting with Zadar County Prefect Josip Bilaver and Zadar Mayor Šime Erlić, Bačić also discussed affordable housing projects, saying nine local authorities in Zadar County had already submitted proposals that could be implemented in partnership with the state as early as next year.

According to Bačić, flats built under the programme could be sold for about €1,900 per square metre, roughly half prevailing market prices in Zadar, with buyers eligible for long-term favourable loans. Part of the development would remain available for long-term rental.
