Hina - The City of Sisak will take over the reconstruction of 12 buildings in the historic city centre in order to accelerate post-earthquake recovery and revitalisation efforts, under a €6.5 million agreement signed on Friday by Construction Minister Branko Bačić and Mayor Domagoj Orlić.

The agreement includes the organisation and implementation of the entire reconstruction process and represents an important step in continuing the restoration of the historic city centre following the 2020 earthquake. It is expected to speed up works and improve coordination between projects across the city. The aim is to restore damaged buildings as quickly as possible, enable residents to return to renovated properties, and further strengthen and develop the centre of Sisak.

Minister Bačić thanked the City of Sisak for its cooperation and expressed great confidence in the success of the project, estimated at €6.5 million.

He noted that €1.8 billion has been invested in reconstruction efforts in the Sisak area and that two-thirds of the overall reconstruction has already been completed.

“We are particularly pleased that, out of 416 public building reconstruction projects, 395 have already been completed. We have made good use of funding from European funds, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and the state budget. Reconstruction has been completed at 10,500 locations, and it has proved right not merely to restore buildings to their original condition, but to renovate them so that they are fully safe,” Bačić concluded.

The reconstruction of all public-use buildings is expected to be completed by the end of June, while the renovation of family homes should be finished by the end of next year.
