The construction of a new multiapartment building and the ceremonial handover of keys marked a new chapter for residents of Hrvatska Kostajnica. The building in question is worth 2.8 million euro, which also represents the 43rd newly built multiapartment building in Sisak-Moslavina County. The housing stock of the county will be enriched by the construction of 59 multiapartment buildings comprising 1,024 housing units, 57 of which should be completed and occupied next year.

The ceremonial handover of keys to new dwellers was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Branko Bačić, State Secretary Tonči Glavinić, Director of APN Dragan Hristov, Deputy Director of APN Josipa Tokić, Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak and Mayor of the City of Hrvatska Kostajnica Dalibor Bišćan.

“This is surely the building with the prettiest view of the Una River. We are pleased to be here today and that it is precisely here that we hand over the keys to future beneficiaries. This is the 43rd building we have constructed, and by mid-next year we will complete 57 of them,” Minister Bačić stated. He pointed out that the reconstruction of Sisak-Moslavina County was not focused solely on the reconstruction of existing objects, but also on the expansion of the housing stock, which is key for county revitalisation.

The new building, first of its kind in Hrvatska Kostajnica, comprises 19 apartments and an additional common area, across four above-ground floors. The apartments range from 35 to 90 square metres, and the total value of the project, including environmental and infrastructural development, is 2.8 million euro, VAT included.

Mayor Bišćan pointed out that these housing units will help demographic revitalisation of Hrvatska Kostajnica and this part of the county.

“I thank the County Prefect for his efforts to construct a building in Hrvatska Kostajnica as well, to demographically strengthen our region. I wish future beneficiaries to feel welcome here, but also to spend as little time in these apartments as possible, so they could return to their homes as soon as possible,” the Mayor stated.

The building is part of a special Government’s project for constructing 36 multiapartment buildings with 666 apartments, financed from the state budget, for which the Government has secured 100 million euro. The building land has been provided by the City Hrvatska Kostajnica, and the building has been built by APN.

“This is only one of a series of buildings APN is building in Sisak-Moslavina County. By now we have built 22 buildings with a total of 400 apartments, including the building occupied today. Moreover, 12 buildings with 228 apartments are under construction, and they are planned to be occupied at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. I wish the new dwellers easy settlement and pleasant moments in the new apartments, while also wishing for your homes to be reconstructed as soon as possible,” Director of APN Dragan Hristov stated.

The building designer was ENTASIS d.o.o., the contractor was GO BIG BOYS GRADNJA from Novska, and expert supervision and consulting was carried out by tendering consortium SO-RA-ING d.o.o., Sisak, and JAM-ING d.o.o., Zlatar.

Basis for implementing housing solutions across the country

This building, as well as others built across Sisak-Moslavina County, will temporarily serve the purpose of providing housing care to citizens whose properties were damaged by the earthquake, and in the long run the apartments will be available to young families from Hrvatska Kostajnica and those who decide to move to this region, County Prefect Ivan Celjak explained.

“We can often hear that the Government conducts the policy of even development across Croatia. This policy can be seen precisely on the example of Sisak-Moslavina County - over the past four years, in every municipality and city, we have implemented several important projects through joint efforts. This building is a strategically important project for the future of Hrvatska Kostajnica,” the County Prefect added.

The project being implemented across Sisak-Moslavina County has served as the basis for developing similar projects across Croatia, Minister Bačić highlighted.

“We are going to provide young people, who struggle to acquire an apartment due to high real estate prices, with affordable apartments. The rents will be 36 euro cents per square metre, which is up to 30 times more favourable than market prices,” the Minister pointed out.

Over 14,000 reconstruction projects completed

The reconstruction process in the areas affected by Zagreb and Petrinja’s earthquakes is comprehensive and historic, Minister Bačić claimed.

“By now we have completed over 14,000 reconstruction projects comprising 53,000 housing units. A total of 4.12 billion euro has been spent on reconstruction, which is approximately nine Pelješac Bridges,” the Minister said.

Out of the total 4.12 billion euro, 2.39 billion euro refers to Zagreb’s earthquake and 1.73 billion euro to Petrinja’s earthquake.

A total of 13,302 private buildings with 53,120 separate units has been reconstructed, together with 787 projects whose financing started from the EU Solidarity Fund. Furthermore, 467 family houses have been built and 157 state apartments reconstructed. Currently, 2,004 locations are under reconstruction, and 234 family houses are under construction.
