(Hina) - The government adopted a regulation setting new fees for retaining illegally constructed buildings, replacing the amounts set in 2012 that no longer reflect current economic conditions and the state of the real estate market.

Construction Minister Branko Bačić said amendments adopted this year allowed illegal buildings constructed by 21 June 2011 to be legalised.

He stressed that this was not a general legalisation process, meaning that not all illegal buildings constructed before that date could be legalised. Buildings located, for example, in transport, infrastructure or energy corridors or protected areas, as well as buildings constructed after that date, remain ineligible.

The fee depends on the size and volume of the building or part being legalised, its location and position, whether it is inside or outside a building zone, and its purpose, such as residential, agricultural or industrial use.

The fee cannot be lower than €150. It can be paid in a lump sum or in instalments if it exceeds €500, with a 25% discount available for one-off payments.
