Bačić: 124 applications for protected tenants housing in Dubrovnik

(Hina) - Minister of Physical Planning, Construction, and State Property Branko Bačić said on Wednesday that providing housing for protected tenants in Dubrovnik will be a particular challenge, with a total of 124 applications submitted.

Following a meeting with Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavić and Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković, Bačić emphasised that Dubrovnik is an extremely attractive location with limited available space for such housing.

"We will soon launch a public call to identify potential sites for new residential construction within the city. We expect the support and cooperation of the City of Dubrovnik in this effort," said Bačić.

He highlighted that Croatia is addressing the issue of protected tenants after 34 years.

"We have planned a total of five measures, but if the first four are not successfully implemented, we will build a state-owned residential building. Based on household size, protected tenants will be accommodated in these flats and will pay a fair and affordable rent. Our goal is to implement the law as quickly as possible, so that these properties can be returned to their rightful owners, from whom they were taken after the Second World War," Bačić stated.
