(Hina) - After more than 30 years, Novska has received 20 new apartments, and €1.3 billion has been invested in the post-earthquake reconstruction of buildings in Sisak-Moslavina County.
On Tuesday, Construction Minister Branko Bačić announced further reconstruction and construction of residential buildings with the aim of ensuring affordable housing.
“We decided to rebuild the damaged areas of Sisak-Moslavina County to help our fellow citizens find a new home, thus contributing to the revitalisation of this part of Croatia. We plan to reconstruct another 300 buildings," Bačić said during his visit to Novska, about 100 km southeast of Zagreb.
Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak emphasised that during their visit, they had the opportunity to see happy families in newly reconstructed homes. "This morning in Novska, we were greeted by five children in the rebuilt home of a seven-member family. I thank Minister Bačić for his help, not only in Novska but throughout the county," Celjak said.
So far, €1.3 billion has been invested in the reconstruction of public and private properties in the county, and 59 new multi-residential buildings are currently under construction. "We have completed 16 buildings and built 1,020 new residential units. All these buildings will be part of the National Housing Policy Plan, which aims to provide affordable housing," Bačić said.
The visit to Novska continued with a tour of the new building with 20 apartments, which was constructed as part of interdepartmental cooperation. "This building symbolises the beginning of housing construction in Novska after 30 years and is also the result of cooperation with the government," Novska Mayor Marija Kušmiš said.
Minister Bačić handed over the keys to three apartments to the Lipik Community Service Centre, which will serve as a home for children without proper parental care.
