Minister Bačić on a meeting with Dragan Čović, president of Croatian National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Today Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Branko Bačić held a meeting with President of the Croatian National Assembly (HNS) of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović.

In an open and productive conversation, key issues referring to political, social and economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina were addressed, with special emphasis on accelerating the reform process and the country’s path to Europe. Both parties agreed that full membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union is strategically important for the stability, security and progress of the entire Southeastern Europe. The Republic of Croatia, as an EU Member State and the closest neighbouring country, will continue to provide strong and consistent support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in meeting the criteria and implementing the required reforms.

A special emphasis was put on ensuring equal rights of the three constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the importance of consistently respecting the principles of equality, equal representation and political rights protection.

The conversation also focused on infrastructural projects of common interest which contribute to better connections, economic development and stronger cross-border collaboration. A particular emphasis was put on the Support programme of the Republic of Croatia for the return of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2025, carried out by the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets. The programme is recognised as an important instrument of preserving the viability of the Croatian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, improving the quality of life for those who return and encouraging demographic and economic revitalisation of the communities where Croats live.

Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the collaboration so far and emphasised the importance of strengthening good-neighbourly relations and fostering ties between the two states.
