Minister says affordable housing zone planned for Velika Gorica

Hina - Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Minister Branko Bačić announced on Friday in Velika Gorica the creation of a new affordable housing zone and visited three families whose replacement homes were built as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction programme.

At a meeting with Velika Gorica Mayor Krešimir Ačkar, Minister Bačić said that, in line with the new Physical Planning Act, land currently classified as agricultural -- located near a school, kindergarten, sports hall and other basic infrastructure -- will be designated as an affordable housing zone.

"The City Council will adopt an affordable housing programme that will define this area as an affordable housing zone. Following that, an urban development project, based on the Physical Planning Act, will quickly enable the construction of new housing units for young residents of Velika Gorica," the minister said.

Mayor Ačkar (HDZ) said the new legislative framework represents a "great opportunity" for local governments.

Kušanec-East business zone under development

The meeting also highlighted the importance of developing the Kušanec-East business zone, located next to the Zagreb-Sisak motorway, for which the state will donate land to the City of Velika Gorica.

"This is an excellent location covering about 52 hectares, worth nearly €32 million. By the end of April, the government will adopt a decision on the donation, after which implementation will begin," Bačić said, adding that full infrastructure for the business zone has already been secured.

Mayor Ačkar said the project would "enable further development of Velika Gorica, increase budget revenues, and consequently raise the standard of living for all residents".

Post-earthquake reconstruction was also discussed. Reconstruction in Velika Gorica has been fully completed at 41 locations, covering a total of 299 housing units. Of these, 27 involved non-structural repairs, six structural reconstruction projects, one financial grant for the purchase of a house or apartment, and seven newly built replacement family homes. Reconstruction is still underway at 31 locations.

"A total of 129 reconstruction requests were received, of which 121 have been resolved. The remaining eight are undergoing administrative proceedings, as applicants initially did not meet the requirements, and their rights are now being determined through the appeals process," Bačić said.

He added that the main purpose of today's visit was to tour newly built family homes in Kučе, Buševec and Otrok.

"This confirms that we have practically completed the entire reconstruction process in this city. All public buildings under reconstruction have been completed, and residents have moved into their replacement homes, which are energy efficient and of high quality," the minister said.
