Minister: 180 apartments to be built at Korešnica in Split for protected tenants

Hina - The priority in Split's affordable housing programme will be the construction of 180 apartments at Korešnica for protected tenants, it was agreed on Thursday at a meeting between Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Minister Branko Bačić and local officials.

Minister Bačić, speaking at a press conference at Korešnica, where the apartments are planned, highlighted that the urban plan envisions a total of 1,140 apartments at Korešnica for affordable housing.

Bačić added that construction work could begin as early as next year on sites for which project documentation has already been approved.

According to Bačić, out of 84,000 apartments in Split, around 17,500 are vacant, while more than 7,200 are used for short-term rentals.

Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta reported that the city is preparing project documentation for affordable housing in several other neighbourhoods, including Ravne njive, Kamen-Šine, Mejaši and Sirobuja.

He also stated that over the remaining three years of his mayoral term, activities will be launched to build 600 apartments for affordable housing.

"Half of the apartments will be for affordable rent, the other half for purchase, at a maximum price of €2,104 per square metre," Šuta said.
