Hina - Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Branko Bačić and Director of the Osijek Clinical Hospital Centre (KBC) Krunoslav Šego signed an agreement in Osijek on Monday to donate 120,000 square metres of state land for the construction of a new Osijek KBC.
The site is valued at €12 million, but Bačić stressed that the project's significance far exceeds its monetary value. He described it as a strategic initiative for Osijek, Osijek-Baranja County and the Slavonia region, boosting economic development and raising healthcare quality to a 21st-century standard.
Šego called it an important day for Osijek residents and patients, noting that the current KBC has operated at its present location for 150 years, making the new facility a necessity rather than a luxury.
Bačić also signed a land donation agreement with the Ekos company for building transfer stations as part of the Orlovnjak Waste Management Centre, supporting more efficient waste management in line with legal and environmental requirements.
Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Nataša Tramišak highlighted that these are the county's two most important government projects, worth a combined €1 billion, with the new KBC alone exceeding €800 million. Preparatory studies and legal arrangements have been ongoing since 2017, and construction could begin within four to five years once government approvals are secured.
Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić said the project will improve development and quality of life in the city for decades, further establishing Osijek as a healthcare and scientific hub.
Prior to the signing, Bačić met in Beli Manastir with Prefect Tramišak and Mayor Igor Pavelić and visited six residential buildings undergoing renovation under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
