“CE” marking and construction products in the harmonised area

The harmonised area of construction products at the EU level is regulated by REGULATION (EU) No 305/2011 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 9 March 2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products and repealing Council Directive 89/106/EEC (hereinafter: Regulation (EU) No 305/2011).
 
Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 lays down conditions for the placing or making available on the market of construction products by establishing harmonised rules on how to express the performance of construction products in relation to their essential characteristics and on the use of CE marking on those products.
 
This is achieved by establishing a „common technical language“, providing unique methods for construction product performance assessment. These methods are complied with in the harmonised European standards (hEN) and the European Assessment Documents (EADs).
 

The European Commission has published on its website a brochure for manufacturers and economic operators entitled ’CE marking of construction products - step by step’.

The brochure explains the steps for the CE marking of a construction product, as well as the obligations of manufacturers, which makes this brochure very useful for manufacturers who plan to affix the CE marking to their construction product or who are searching for a list of tasks that precede the CE marking of a construction product. The brochure is available on the website of the European Commission in all the official languages of the European Union.
