Fire in Zagreb's Vjesnik
Last night, on November 17, 2025, around 11 p.m., a fire broke out in the Vjesnik skyscraper on Slavonska avenija in Zagreb. The fire spread vertically and engulfed several floors and the roof area, which required the involvement of a large number of firefighters.
We thank all emergency responders - the police and the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Zagreb and all firefighters who responded immediately and make every effort to put the fire under control.The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and investigation will ascertain how the fire started. Gas and electricity have been shut off in the building to prevent further damage. Luckily, nobody has been injured.
The Republic of Croatia co-owns the Vjesnik business centre together with other legal persons. The part of the building affected by the fire is used to store archival material, while the side part of Vjesnik (the so-called annex) used by the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets as offices for employees has not been affected by the fire.
The Ministry will take every action necessary to start rehabilitation works and the reconstruction of the entire complex as soon as possible.
