Today’s ceremonial handover of keys marked the completion of another multiapartment building built as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction and revitalisation of Sisak-Moslavina County. The new building comprises 19 housing units, it is worth 2.8 million euro, and it is built on land provided by the City of Sisak. This is the 42nd completed and occupied building, out of the 59 planned in Sisak-Moslavina County, which will increase the housing stock by a total of 1.024 new housing units.

The ceremony of handing keys over to new residents was attended by State Secretary responsible for reconstruction Tonči Glavinić, Director of APN Dragan Hristov, Deputy Director of APN Josipa Tokić, Deputy Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Mihael Jurić and Mayor of Sisak Domagoj Orlić, together with numerous other guests.

“Driving along the highway from Zagreb to Sisak, I was thinking how, over the past month, a single week hasn’t gone by without visiting Sisak-Moslavina County with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bačić. It is my pleasure to take part in the opening of another newly built multiapartment building today, out of 15 in the City of Sisak,” State Secretary Tonči Glavinić said in his introductory speech.

He said the new buildings are primarily intended for citizens whose property was damaged by the earthquake, and they will also be used for the purpose of implementing the National Housing Policy Plan, whose goal is to “provide young generations and young families with affordable housing, thereby enabling them to stay in their city,” State Secretary added.

The new multiapartment building comprises 19 housing units and a common space, organised across four above-ground floors. The apartments range from one-bedroom to four-bedroom apartments, from 35 square metres to 90 square metres. The total value of the construction work, including environmental and infrastructural development, is 2.8 million euro, VAT included. The building is part of a separate project of constructing 36 multiapartment buildings financed from the state budget, for which the Government of the Republic of Croatia allocated 100 million euro.

“By now, APN has built 21 buildings comprising 381 apartments in Sisak-Moslavina County, including the one being occupied today. Moreover, 13 buildings with 247 apartments are under construction, and we plan to have them occupied later this year or at the beginning of next year. I wish all residents many joyful moments here, and I hope your own homes will be reconstructed as soon as possible,” Director of APN Dragan Hristov said.

The building designer was ENTASIS d.o.o., the contractor was EUROKAMEN d.o.o. from Osijek, and TOMTING 2010 d.o.o. from Zagreb carried out expert supervision and consulting.

Historic development of the City of Sisak and Sisak-Moslavina County

The idea of building multiapartment buildings in Sisak and Sisak-Moslavina County came about in 2023, when Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak and then State Secretary Domagoj Orlić presented it to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Branko Bačić.

“Even though the plan seemed ambitious at the time, in just over two and a half years we witness the opening ceremonies of these multiapartment buildings. I am particularly pleased that 13 multiapartment buildings have been occupied in the City of Sisak, i.e. 247 apartments. When we add two more buildings with 30 apartments opened last year as part of another APN programme, we get a record number of built and occupied apartments in a truly short period,” Mayor Orlić said. He added that two more multiapartment buildings will be occupied soon in Ujevićeva Street, while three more are under construction in Bakranova Street.

Deputy County Prefect Mihael Jurić pointed out that this is a historic development of both Sisak and Sisak-Moslavina County.

“We who live here understand that this progress is more intense than ever before. We expect over 50 new multiapartment buildings in the county area. I believe that Sisak, considering the new highway, revitalised railway, transport connections and real estate prices, will become the most desirable satellite city of Zagreb. I believe many residents will want to come to Sisak and live here, as it provides all those qualities of life a modern family needs to have,” he said. Mayor Orlić added that Sisak has a completely new healthcare system and educational infrastructure.

These projects are not only solutions for earthquake victims, but also a significant investment in the visual identity of this area and in the quality of life of locals, State Secretary Glavinić pointed out.

“Only in the last month we have seen the openings of Različak Kindergarten, Galdovo Kindergarten, Retirement Home in Caprag and another multiapartment building. These projects reflect that the Government, in cooperation with the county and the city, addresses both the reconstruction, but also the long-term demographic economic revitalisation. None of these buildings make sense without citizens and I believe a truly bright future is now starting to emerge,” he stated.

Over 4.1 billion euro invested in post-earthquake reconstruction

The post-earthquake reconstruction has been fully completed at over 14,000 locations, which include over 53,000 housing units. A total of 466 houses has been built, 205 houses are under construction, with 183 of them in the Petrinja area.

From the beginning of the reconstruction in the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquake areas, a total of 4.1 billion euro has been spent - 2.39 billion euro referring to Zagreb earthquake area and 1.73 billion euro to Petrinja earthquake area.
