Announcement: Open House Day – fifth anniversary of the Petrinja earthquake

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Petrinja earthquake, the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, in cooperation with other sectors, organises an Open House Day. Numerous reconstructed public use facilities in Sisak-Moslavina County and Karlovac County will open their doors to citizens on the very anniversary, on Monday, December 29, 2025, and some even sooner, offering a unique opportunity to view completely reconstructed and modernly equipped spaces.

Post-earthquake reconstruction was not focused only on restoring the pre-earthquake condition, but on comprehensive reconstruction, space revitalisation and creating new possibilities for every generation in earthquake-affected areas.

Open House Days offer a unique opportunity to get familiarised with the reconstruction process and to tour the buildings adapted to contemporary standards and community needs. With expert guidance, visitors will be able to learn more about the complex reconstruction projects and solutions that ensure long-term safety and quality of the space.

Numerous facilities will open their doors, offering a special programme for all age groups - from spaces where first steps are made, first friendships established, from spaces for learning, creative expression and togetherness, to facilities that care for health, cherish the youth and nurture spiritual peace.

Diverse programme for all generations

The Open House Day offers more than just a tour - at some locations, additional activities will be organised to offer a full experience to visitors. In Dr. Ivo Pedišić General Hospital in Sisak and in health centres, preventive health screenings will be conducted, including measurements of blood pressure, blood sugar levels, heigh and weight, and intraocular pressure, along with counselling on the importance of preserving and promoting mental health. Cultural institutions will prepare exhibitions and guided tours.

Visitors will be given the opportunity to view reconstructed schools and faculties, and to learn more about the process of their modernisation and adaptation to contemporary educational needs.

You will be able to tour buildings that have undergone detailed reconstructions and to learn how each space has been designed to meet contemporary needs while preserving its historical and cultural values. Step inside, discover their new look and explore their new purpose.

The Open House Day is organised by the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture and Media, the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, the City of Petrinja, the City of Glina, the City of Sisak, the City of Karlovac, Sisak-Moslavina County and Karlovac County.
