Construction site of Croatian Football Federation training camp officially opened
Hina - The construction site of the future Croatian Football Federation (HNS) training camp was officially opened on Friday in Velika Gorica, just south of Zagreb.
The complex will feature four football pitches and a small stadium, where Croatia's youth and women’s national teams will be able to play their matches. In addition to sports infrastructure, the camp will also include an office building that will serve as the new administrative headquarters of the Croatian Football Federation, the HNS announced on its website.
The ground-breaking ceremony featured Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Construction Minister Branko Bačić, Tourism and Sport Minister Tonči Glavina, Velika Gorica Mayor Krešimir Ačkar, Zagreb County Prefect Stjepan Kožić and HNS President Marijan Kustić.
"Football has brought so much joy, emotion, satisfaction, happiness, success and international recognition to Croatia over the past 35 years like few other things have. Thanks to all our footballers, coaches and everyone involved in the sport, who have helped position Croatia as a footballing powerhouse," Prime Minister Plenković said, noting that the camp is ideally located near Franjo Tuđman Airport.
Tourism and Sport Minister Glavina shared details on the state funding provided for the project.
"This is a big day for Croatian sport and Croatian football. The government has approved €15 million in co-financing for this project over the next three years, and when we add the €4.2 million value of the land, that brings the total close to €20 million - a very strong show of support," Glavina said.
"We’re not stopping here. We will continue to invest in sports infrastructure, both here and across Croatia. In addition, work has begun on the new Maksimir Stadium (in Zagreb) and the reconstruction of Poljud Stadium (in Split). These investments in sports infrastructure are unprecedented," he added.
