Croatian pavilion wins silver prize at Expo 2025 Osaka
On October 12 in Osaka, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) based in Paris awarded the Croatian pavilion a silver award for Theme Development in the Shared Pavilion category, the Saving Lives zone.
The award winners were selected by members of the international BIE jury, consisting of nine experts from different fields, who toured the pavilions during May and October 2025, before making the final decision. The official awards are given in multiple categories, depending on the concept and size of the pavilion - from architecture and landscape (for self-built pavilions), through external design (for module pavilions), to exhibition design, theme development and sustainability.
The Expo 2025 Osaka takes place from April 13 to October 13, 2025, under the umbrella theme Designing Future Society for Our Lives. It is hosted by the city of Osaka, and the exhibition takes place on the Yumeshima artificial island, designed specifically for this occasion. Over 160 countries and international organisations present at Expo, which, according to organisers’ assessment, will be visited by over 28 million people.
The Republic of Croatia participates with the project “Croatia - Climadiversity” by Lana Grahek, Maroje Mrduljaš, Antonio Patljak, Korina Vuković and Pero Vuković with associates Petra Bigor, Yujin Jeong and Filip Majcenić and the studio ARHIV arhitektura I urbanizam d.o.o. The project was chosen through a public architecture and design tender conducted by the Croatian Association of Architects.
The Croatian pavilion stands out due to its original and interactive concept which provides visitors with a unique “live” experience - the sensation of actual heat in different Croatian regions at the same time, depending on time difference. Thanks to a network of weather stations across Croatia, the pavilion shows real-time data on temperature at various locations, which physically transmits and compares the diversity of climate in Croatia - from the coast to the inland. This world-leading innovation conjoins science, technology and art in a direct climadiversity experience.
The pavilion was developed by the Croatian company Enison d.o.o. from Zagreb.
