Hina - Construction Minister Branko Bačić on Friday signed agreements awarding €4.5 million in grants for green urban infrastructure projects in Tučepi, Gradac, Solin and Makarska, following a meeting with local officials in Split-Dalmatia County.

Bačić said Split-Dalmatia County was the first county in Croatia to receive such agreements.

A total of €131 million has been earmarked for 72 projects nationwide, enabling the planting of 87,000 trees and shrubs and the construction of fountains, water features, small artificial lakes and parks.

“These will be the lungs of our towns and municipalities, helping to reduce temperatures in these areas,“ Bačić said.

The projects are expected to benefit around 340,000 residents and form part of broader efforts to address climate change.

In Dugopolje, Bačić also met mayors and municipal heads from across the county to discuss affordable housing as a contribution to demographic recovery.

He said 512 applications had so far been submitted from the county for housing construction under the affordable housing programme and announced that construction would begin next year.

County Prefect Blaženko Boban said that, through the county-funded “This Is Your Home“ programme, contracts had so far been awarded to 524 young families who had moved to the Dalmatian hinterland with nearly 1,100 children.

Earlier in the day, Bačić attended a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Vrlika for a residential building with 12 flats.
