Minister awards €10,2m green infrastructure contracts in Đurđevac

Hina - Construction and Physical Planning Minister Branko Bačić on Monday awarded contracts worth approximately €10,2 million for six green infrastructure projects in Koprivnica-Križevci County.

The projects, allocated to the towns of Đurđevac and Koprivnica and the municipalities of Peteranec, Kalinovac, Drnje and Ferdinandovac, are backed by more than €10.2 million in EU grants.

Bačić said the investments form part of a national programme worth €131 million, covering 72 projects across Croatia.

He noted that 140 local government units applied for funding within just three hours of the call being opened, prompting an increase in the allocation from €71 million to €131 million due to strong demand.

The projects are intended to support climate neutrality goals, improve quality of life and strengthen urban resilience to climate change.

According to Bačić, around 87,000 trees and shrubs will be planted, with measures covering roughly 340,000 residents, contributing to greener and more liveable cities.

The largest individual project was approved for Đurđevac, worth nearly €4.9 million, including €4.15 million in EU funding. Koprivnica's €3.6 million project has been given a greenlight and will receive more than €3 million in co-financing.

Ferdinandovac municipality will receive over €1 million for its “Green Renewal of Ferdinandovac” project, and grants will be awarded for initiatives in Peteranec, Kalinovac and Drnje.

Bačić also announced that from 1 July, the city of Đurđevac will take over certain administrative responsibilities currently handled by the county, including issuing location, construction and occupancy permits.

He described the move as another step in functional decentralisation and the transfer of competences to local authorities.

MP and Kalinovac mayor Darko Sobota said the €10.2 million allocation for the county was a significant investment, adding that municipalities were looking forward to continued cooperation and further projects aimed at making local communities cleaner and greener.
