Minister Bačić hands over decisions on property management in Vukovar
Hina - Minister of State Assets Branko Bačić on Friday handed over a decision to Vukovar Mayor Ivan Penava regarding the management of properties owned by the state, including two residential buildings which the city authorities intend to repurpose as a care home for the elderly and infirm.
"Our cooperation with the City of Vukovar is particularly active, as Vukovar is at the heart of our activities. At the end of March, the government adopted the National Housing Policy Plan, which envisages increasing the capacity of care homes for the elderly across Croatia. Here, in cooperation with the City, we will find a method and model so that these buildings can be used for housing the elderly," said Minister Bačić.He also announced the construction of two residential buildings in Ivo Tijardović Street, as well as the continuation of reconstruction works on the Batina Villas in the Borovo Naselje district. Alongside these, the state-owned housing stock in Vukovar is also being renovated. "This year, 63 flats will be completed, and perhaps even more," Bačić said.
According to Mayor Penava, the conversion of the two residential buildings into a care home for the elderly will significantly improve the quality of life for Vukovar's senior citizens, particularly because this is a vulnerable age group that is in urgent need of adequate care.
"The new care home for the elderly and infirm will reduce waiting lists for our citizens in need of accommodation and will further revitalise the Borovo Naselje district," Penava said.
Bačić also handed Penava a decision regarding the management of a property in 204th Vukovar Brigade Street. As the mayor explained, the location is ideal for a facility intended to serve the public, with a focus on improving social services that would promote, develop, and enhance the interests of children and young people. It would help meet their basic living needs, educational requirements, cultural and social needs, and prepare them for independent living within the community.
It was noted that the property will be made available to the "Breza" association, which bases its work on integrating children and young people into society and is the only such organisation in Vukovar-Srijem County.
