Ministry representatives participate in High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York
The High-Level Political Forum with the theme "Transformation towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies" is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development, and it has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. The Forum meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council.
Among the themes of this year's HLPF 2018 is Goal 11: “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” , within the framework of which representatives of the MCPP, together with their colleagues from Czechia, participate as co-organizers of the side event entitled “How to achieve New Urban Agenda principles through spatial planning and energy efficiency’’.
During the side event, the experiences in implementing SDG 11 in the Republic of Croatia and Czech Republic were successfully presented. In the introductory part, the representative of the European Commission DG REGIO Thomas De Bethune referred to the territorial cohesion of the European Union and the most important urban and regional policies of the European Commission. On behalf of the MCPP, Ines Androić Brajčić, Head of Sector, and Sandra Momčilović, Head of Service attended the side event. The MCPP representatives delineated the relationship of global, EU and national documents and the implementation of SDG 11 and its sub-goals. In their presentations, they emphasised the analogy with the paragraphs of the New Urban Agenda in the field of energy renovation of buildings from ESI funds, and in the field of physical planning.
The importance of national experiences in the fulfilment of the above goals and principles was highlighted. At the end, moderator Laura Petrella pointed out, through a discussion with the side event participants, the importance of stakeholder involvement and participation in all relevant decision-making processes.
The Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia in New York provided, through their engagement in the organization of the side event and their presence at it, support to the representatives of the MCPP.
