(Hina) - The post-earthquake reconstruction of Sisak-Moslavina County has been 90% completed, with €1.3 billion invested in public-use buildings and private properties, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday during a visit to newly constructed and rebuilt facilities in Petrinja and Sisak.

Accompanied by Physical Planning, Construction, and State Assets Minister Branko Bačić and Health Minister Irena Hrstić, Plenković toured the newly built Health Centre and Youth Centre in Petrinja. In Sisak, they visited newly constructed facilities of the Dr. Ivo Pedišić General Hospital, the County Student Dormitory, and a renovated building housing the County Development Agency SIMORA and branches of several ministries.

Plenković expressed particular satisfaction with the opening of the Youth Centre in Petrinja, which was funded by the city. “This will be a new hub of life and a gathering place for young people and all residents of Petrinja, something the city has needed for a long time. We are especially happy that the Youth Centre will be named the Laura Cvijić Youth Centre, in memory of the young girl from Petrinja who tragically lost her life in the earthquake. We are grateful to her family for allowing her name to be used."

At the first county Student Dormitory in Sisak, Plenković inaugurated a new building featuring 14 double rooms for secondary school students. Since spring, 50 students have been living in the dormitory, and the new building will accommodate an additional 25.

The value of the renovated buildings visited today amounts to €54 million, Plenković noted, adding that 59 new residential buildings are under construction in Sisak-Moslavina County, with occupancy expected to begin in the spring.

Reconstruction projects aimed at revitalising Sisak-Moslavina County

Minister Bačić said the goal of the reconstruction projects is the revitalisation of Sisak-Moslavina County, adding that the reconstruction is expected to be completed by June 2026.

County Prefect Ivan Celjak thanked the government for its partnership and support, saying that the reconstruction would not have been possible without funds from the Solidarity Fund, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and national funding. "Thanks to cooperation with the government and ministries, life is returning to our county."

Bačić said Petrinja Mayor Magdalena Komes highlighted the need for a new kindergarten in the city. "This is the best confirmation that life is returning to earthquake-affected areas, as the number of children is increasing," he added.
