Hina - Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić informed the cabinet during its regular session on Thursday that reconstruction had been completed at a total of 13,569 locations in areas struck by the earthquakes five years ago.

Of that number, 12,820 are privately owned buildings, while 749 locations are reconstruction projects financed from the EU Solidarity Fund.

Bačić, who also serves as Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, highlighted in particular the construction of replacement family homes, saying that the goal is to complete all replacement homes in both the Petrinja and Zagreb earthquake areas by the end of next year.

In the Zagreb earthquake area, reconstruction has been completed at 3,962 locations, while in the Petrinja earthquake area, work has been completed at 9,607 locations.

Reconstruction is currently under way at 1,844 sites, with priority given to private buildings - 741 of them in the Zagreb area and 1,103 in the Petrinja area.

A further 1,172 locations are in the public procurement phase, mostly relating to family houses. The total value of these projects is estimated at €136 million.

Under the EU Solidarity Fund, contracts have been signed for 1,309 projects, of which 1,121 have been completed, with a combined value of €3.7 billion.

Reconstruction of Zagreb Cathedral could be ready by Christmas

Bačić also commented on the reconstruction of Zagreb Cathedral, saying that it could be ready by Christmas, when the first Midnight Mass since the earthquake would be held in the cathedral.

During Thursday's session, the government adopted an action plan for the implementation of the National Development Plan for the judicial system for 2022-2027. The action plan covers the years 2025 to 2027 and includes 35 new measures for achieving the specific objectives set out in the national plan.

The government also submitted to parliament a bill on contaminants, aimed at harmonising Croatian legislation with current EU regulations on the maximum permitted levels of certain contaminants in food.
