Second session of the Thematic Working Group on Energy and Sustainable Environment (TWG)

The second session of the Thematic Working Group on Energy and Sustainable Environment (TWG) took place in Zagreb, on Wednesday, 10 October 2018, within the process of preparation of the National Development Strategy 2030 (NDS); the session was organised by the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, which is also the NDS preparation authority.

The agenda of the session comprised Phase II of NDS 2030 preparation, including the presentation of proposals of strategic goals and output indicators, as well as key intervention areas.

TWG leaders Assist.Prof. Maja-Marija Nahod, Ph.D., Assistant Minister of Construction and Physical Planning, and Igor Čižmek, Assistant Minister of Environmental Protection and Energy, presented a proposal for one of the NDS development directions, as well as other agenda topics.

The development direction of the Green Croatia NDS applies to a large number of themes, among which: enhancing climate change resilience; sustainable management of natural resources and space in order to preserve biodiversity, the environment and human health; sustainable urban development; transition towards low-carbon development, including energy transition and investment in renewable energy sources, smart energy grids, energy efficiency, green and sustainable building; and transition to circular economy.

After the presentation by the TWG leaders, workshops were held in which TWG members, representatives of various stakeholders involved in NDS preparation, discussed the proposals of specific goals, key intervention areas and indicators, and gave their proposals for amendments.
