Sisak: Minister awards contracts for apartments under housing support programme
Hina - Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Branko Bačić on Wednesday visited Sisak, where he handed over contracts for 61 apartments under a housing programme, as well as 12 additional apartments for shortage professions.
The rental contracts for renovated state-owned apartments were awarded to residents from Petrinja, Glina, Topusko, Dvor, Hrvatska Kostajnica, Jasenovac and Novska. The apartments are rented at a symbolic price of €0.36 per square metre, with the possibility of purchase under favourable conditions after five years of occupancy."This is truly affordable, considering that the state pays roughly €9.50 per square metre to house people waiting for their houses to be rebuilt," said Minister Bačić.
He added that the government, through the National Housing Policy Plan, aims to make affordable housing available to all citizens who cannot afford market-rate rentals.
"To that end, in the coming years we plan to build 20,000 apartments using the same model we applied in the earthquake-affected area of Petrinja, where we constructed 60 buildings with a total of 1,100 apartments," he said.
Renovation of public buildings to be completed by June
During his visit to Sisak, the minister also toured the reconstruction site of the so-called Meštrović Block, a residential building with 102 housing units. Built in 1954 and covering 8,752 square metres, it is the second-largest residential building in Sisak damaged by the earthquake in 2020. The total cost of its renovation is €3,382,816.
Currently, 12 residential buildings in Sisak are under reconstruction. According to announcements, the two largest renovated buildings are expected to be ready for occupancy by June.
Minister Bačić also announced that the renovation of all public buildings should be completed by June, while the reconstruction of all family homes is expected to be finished by the end of next year.
