Teacher Education Faculty in Petrinja, residential building in Dvor opened
Hina - Construction Minister Branko Bačić inaugurated the fully renovated Faculty of Teacher Education in Petrinja on Tuesday, where he also announced plans for the construction of a student dormitory. In Dvor, he handed over keys to new flats for nine families in a newly built residential building.
The renovation of the faculty cost €5.2 million. According to Vice-Dean Marko Badrić, the project modernised and technologically equipped 2,500 square metres, the faculty has 11 classrooms accommodating 600 students, 14 offices, a library, a conference hall, a student restaurant and a common room. The new student dormitory in Petrinja will feature around 30 rooms for 66 students. "For both Petrinja and the faculty, a student dormitory is crucial. We need to attract students to study here. Petrinja has a future," said Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak.
Petrinja’s Mayor Magdalena Komes said that following the 2020 earthquake, the primary goal of local and national authorities was to retain and attract residents. "We have kept people here and we are increasing the number of children enrolled in kindergartens, schools, and the university."
Bačić and Celjak also visited Dvor, where they handed over keys to residents of a newly built 19-apartment building as part of the housing programme. The construction and furnishing costs amounted to €3.01 million.
"I am especially pleased when we complete and open multi-apartment buildings or family homes because housing is a fundamental human need," Bačić said.
Dvor municipal head Nikola Arbutina said that 17 apartments would accommodate earthquake victims, while two would be designated for much-needed education professionals. "Both groups are important to us, but ensuring housing for teachers and educators is essential. Without them, Dvor can't function."
