Twenty-sixth session of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT held in Nairobi
In Nairobi, Kenya, from 8 to 12 May 2017, the twenty-sixth session of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat took place, with the Republic of Croatia also being a member state of the Governing Council as of 1 January 2017.
Croatia participated in the twenty-sixth session of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat through its accredited representatives from the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and the Croatian Institute for Spatial Development.
At the plenary session on 8 May 2017, head of delegation Igor Čižmek, assistant minister of construction and physical planning, held a presentation on national policies and main development documents of the Republic of Croatia on the theme of housing and sustainable development of cities and settlements.
The Croatian representatives participated in plenary and thematic sessions, expert panels and informal coordination meetings, as well as in drafting proposals and adopting the following nine resolutions of importance to the further work of UN-HABITAT: Revised Strategic Plan 2014-2019 and Programme of Work and Budget of UN-Habitat for the biennium 2018-2019; Extension of the mandate of the working group on programme and budget of UN-Habitat, Resolution on accreditation; Promoting effective implementation, follow-up to and review of the New Urban Agenda; Enhancing UN-Habitat’s role in urban crisis response and proposed prevention; Promoting safety in cities and human settlements; Regional technical support on sustainable housing and urban development by regional consultative structures; World Urban Forum; and Human Settlements Development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
