Two more multiapartment buildings occupied in Sisak – 38 new apartments for residents
Today at 29 and 31 Tin Ujević Street, two new multiapartment buildings have been occupied. The investment is worth 5.5 million euro and 38 families will make it their home. The key ceremony marked the completion of 45 multiapartment buildings occupied in Sisak-Moslavina County, while the aim is to build 59 buildings comprising 1,024 housing units – 57 of which should be completed and occupied next year.
“In a little over three weeks we will mark the fifth anniversary of the Petrinja earthquake, which caused immense damage to the housing stock and social infrastructure. Five years later we witness that life in Sisak and the entire county has been raised to a higher level. Substantial resources have been invested with the purpose of bringing life back to normal and creating even better living conditions than before,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Branko Bačić said. The key ceremony was also attended by Director of APN Dragan Hristov, Deputy Director of APN Josipa Tokić, Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak and Mayor of the City of Sisak Domagoj Orlić.
Mayor Orlić pointed out that these are the 14th and 15th building occupied in the City of Sisak, which secures 258 new apartments to citizens. If we add two additional buildings comprising 30 apartments under another APN programme, there are 17 multiapartment buildings completed and occupied in Sisak.
“These are not buildings that were there before the earthquake - this is an increase of the housing stock, which, I believe, will have a long-term impact on demography and revitalisation of our city,” he stated. He also added that two days ago the City of Sisak received an award for the greatest improvement in the quality of life among all cities in the Republic of Croatia.
Each of the newly occupied buildings in Tin Ujević Street comprise 19 housing units and a common space across four above-ground floors. The apartments range from one-bedroom to four-bedroom apartments, from 35 to 90 square metres. The total value of both buildings, including environmental and infrastructural development, is 5.5 million euro, VAT included. The building land was provided by the City of Sisak, and the building was built by APN.
County Prefect Ivan Celjak reminded the audience that in the City of Sisak a total of 20 multiapartment buildings is planned. Fifteen buildings worth 43.3 million euro have already been completed, and three are under construction. These two buildings are part of a separate construction project of 36 multiapartment buildings financed from the state budget, for which the Government of the Republic of Croatia has allocated 100 million euro.
“APN has built 22 buildings comprising 400 apartments - 15 buildings being in Sisak. Currently, another 12 buildings comprising 228 apartments are under construction and planned to be occupied in the first half of 2026,” Director of APN Dragan Hristov said, expressing gratitude to all project stakeholders. He wished the beneficiaries a quick move-in and pleasant moments in their new apartments.
The buildings will temporarily provide housing to citizens whose property was damaged by the earthquake, and in the long run, the apartments will be available to young families. The designer was ENTASIS d.o.o., the contractor was EUROKAMEN d.o.o. from Osijek and expert supervision and consulting was carried out by KLing d.o.o.
Rising quality of life in Sisak and Sisak-Moslavina County
Minister Bačić recalled that at the start of the reconstruction process, at the proposal of County Prefect Celjak and then State Secretary Orlić, a decision was made to not only reconstruct damaged buildings, but to create new housing stock, which will serve as the foundation for demographic revitalisation of Sisak and the county.
“After the earthquake, the highway has been completed, a series of Government projects realised, this historic housing construction, Sisak-Moslavina County has practically reconstructed the hospital complex, education system, secondary schools, and the City of Sisak primary schools, we have expanded kindergarten capacities and we have no intention of stopping,” Mayor Orlić said. He announced that in 2026 the City will secure 10,000 euro for young families to purchase their first real estate and to continue investment in affordable housing.
County Prefect Celjak added that in Sisak and the county life is better than before the earthquake and this quality of life will continue to rise.
“We have reconstructed hospital buildings, healthcare facilities, the county has reconstructed 20 schools, we have built four new schools, and the fourth one is under construction. We have reconstructed retirement homes and built three retirement settlements comprising 166 houses. Today Sisak also has a highway to Zagreb. Hence, the entire system is completed - good-quality healthcare, education, social welfare services and, the foundation of demographic strengthening - good-quality housing,” the County Prefect concluded.
Over 14,164 post-earthquake reconstruction projects completed
Minister Bačić also commented on yesterday’s Government session, where the report on the effects on implementing the reconstruction act following the Petrinja and Zagreb earthquake was presented.
“Over the past five years, we have completed over 14,000 post-earthquake reconstruction projects. These 14,000 projects entail 53,000 housing units, and in the entire reconstruction of private buildings, but also public buildings, traffic and municipal infrastructure, nearly four billion two hundred million euro has been invested - which is the value of nearly nine Pelješac Bridges. It shows the scale of this construction endeavour, and we will continue at the same pace,” the Minister said.
He also reminded the audience that the new Affordable Housing Act is open for public consultation, which largely relies on the housing construction model developed precisely for this area. This model will apply across Croatia through the National Housing Policy Plan.
From the beginning of the reconstruction in the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquake areas, a total of 4.17 billion euro has been spent - 2.43 billion euro for the Zagreb earthquake and 1.74 billion euro for the Petrinja earthquake. The 2025 state budget allocates 900 million euro for reconstruction, and the 2026 budget allocates 1.02 billion euro.
