'National Input of the Republic of Croatia to HABITAT III Conference' presented to the public
Habitat III is the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development to take place in Quito, Ecuador, from 17 – 20 October 2016, and convened to reinvigorate the global commitment to sustainable urbanization, assess accomplishments to date and address new and emerging challenges.
The Conference is to result in a 'New Urban Agenda', a document that in response to the rapid growth of urban areas will set a new global strategy and a new model of urban development to integrate all aspects of sustainable development, set new strategic directions and priorities, and new UN goals of sustainable development, as well as indicators for monitoring their implementation.
A first step towards the 'New Urban Agenda' consists in member states' National Reports and Inputs for Habitat III on the outcomes and recognised problems in the implementation of the 'Habitat Agenda' document adopted in Istanbul in 1996.
For the purpose of Croatia's participation in the HABITAT III Conference, and based on the proposal by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning has been designated as competent for intersectoral coordination of the preparation of the National Input.
It is recalled that UN HABITAT is a United Nations programme on cities and human settlements designed for sustainable urban development and an important actor in charge of activities directed at developing the global urban development strategy.
