Housing care for citizens whose homes were damaged in the earthquake
Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets covers the rent for a replacement apartment for citizens who were left without a home in the 2020 earthquakes
Citizens whose facilities were damaged in the earthquake, and who have not yet resolved their replacement accommodation, provided that they meet the requirements of the Public Call issued by the Ministry on January 8th, 2022, can apply for the rent financing no later than June 17th, 2022.The application can be submitted by owners of family houses, apartment owners and protected tenants, as well as their relatives in the direct line, who lived and were registered as residents on March 22nd and December 28th/29th, 2020 (at the time of the earthquakes) in family houses, apartment buildings, as well as residential and commercial buildings in the City of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagreb County, Sisak-Moslavina County and Karlovac County, and whose buildings were marked as either N1 (unusable - due to external influence) or N2 (unusable - due to damage) in the preliminary inspection of buildings, which made them unhabitable.
The housing care measure refers to citizens who do not have other habitable living space within a radius of 20 kilometers from the damaged property.
Note that the rent fee for a replacement apartment will be financed solely based on concluded lease agreements that have been reported to the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Administration.
The financing from the Ministry accounts to an apartment surface area of up to 35 square meters for a single person, and an additional ten square meters per each additional person, at a price of 70 kunas per square meter.
The rent fee will be paid directly to the landlord's account.
Rent financing parameters are based on the subsidized housing system, and the measure itself will be applicable to no later than June 17th, 2022, or until the reconstruction of the damaged building, revision of the degree of damage, as well as possible accommodation of people in state-owned apartments.
Applications for rent financing approval can be submitted via standardised forms, together with the relevant documentation, directly or by mail to the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, Ulica Republike Austrije 14, 10 000 Zagreb.
Furthermore, Public Call is opened to all apartment owners in the City of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagreb County, Sisak-Moslavina County and Karlovac County who wish to rent their apartments to those who are eligible to have their rent financed by the Ministry.
